Sports I Coach and Activities I Sponsor

Here I am with Andre--because I am a tournament director for Bahrain, I get to meet a lot of the top players--so do my players. Three years ago the Williams Sisters gave tips and played with my whole team.

The tennis team is given a handout which explains all the rules and practice schedule.

Tennis:

Tennis season starts in September . All players who have current physicals on file begin that week. We concentrate on building on existing skills and getting the player ready for competition.

We have a mens and women's team. In 2002, we won the European title for Men's Doubles.

I have been coaching tennis for over 20 years. Having played in high school, college and on the professional level for a very limited time.

In the past, I was the technical co-ordinator for the Borg/Gerulatis match in Bahrain and umpired for ATP matches there.

I am a certified teaching pro from the PTR--test by Dennis Van DeMeer himself.

Our matches are on Saturdays beginning in September starting at 10:00 a.m.

We are looking foward to a great season.

Our European Champs for 2002

This is the first time in over 10 years that we won a DoDDS European Tennis Tournament.

Our men's singles player took second place in the Divisional Tournament and third place at the 2001 DoDDS European Tournament.

Basketball

We had a great 2001 season: we won our conference-9-0 and for the first time in Patch HS's history; we won the DoDDS European Championship. Two of our players James-6'9" and Nick 6'4" both made all European and James got MVP for the tournament.

The team has two assistant coaches, one will also be the head coach of the jv team. We try to sit the bench for all the games as a coaching team. Practices usually start off with working on individual moves, then a team jog and stretch.

We then go over the game plan for the day and split in to Varsity and JV practices. Varsity will start with the  Oklahoma play.3-2,2-1 on one drill and then work on our play element drill, each drill is separated by 10 foul shots that are recorded. We try to do at least two fast break drills a a practice. One of the assistant coaches will then work on one of our defenses. Each practice will emphasize at least one of our presses and press breakers.

We try to keep the drills short and meaningful.

Our Varsity Team

This year I am coaching the Lady Panthers--since Coach Washington is now in Bahrain.  We have some great ladies on the team with lots of intelligence and skills.  We hope do have a successful season.

We practice everyday 3:30-5:45 and on some Saturdays.

The team gets dressed up the day before and the day of the game. They wear Patch Ties with a white shirt anytime they are seen by the public.

Video Coordinator work with our editors on Final Cut Pro 3.0

The VideoyearBook Club is open to all students. We meet during seminar and shoot after school and on weekends. The students get to use the best equipment and learn how to edit on digital editing units--Screenplay and Sony computers using Premiere 6.0.

We now use Mac computers to do most of our editing--using I-Movie-2 and Final Cut 3.0.   Last year was the first time we made a DVD VideoYearBook.  This year we have Video YearBook class and they are doing a great job.

Also, we now belong to the CNN Student Bureau and have edited three spots so far.  We will include one on this page from last year.

We sell the DVD for $30.00, The Tape for $20.00 and the VCD for $25.00.   Checks should be made out to Patch American HS.  They are on sale in room 113.

The Panther Press

The Panther Press is writting mostly in the journalism class and is put out once a month. The paper is usually 28-30 pages long and the emphasis is our students and their accomplishments.

You do not have to be in the journalism class to write for the Panther Press. We meet after school at specified times that are convenient for the student. We encourage the student to write their articles using Microsoft Word. Panther Press encourages original comics and art work in each issue. This is open for all students.
