Bonne does some peer teaching to a visiting school

My high school classes learn how to use the video camera extensively, They learn at least 25 different types of shots that they can use later on in the projects. One of the projects for the first quarter is an In-camera edit.

During the second quarter, the students learn how to use video mixers, sound mixing boards, analog editors, and titlers. The major projects for the second quarter is a minute thirty second news spot, a Q and A, and a commercial for something school related. The students must shoot at least once for two hours after school--usually a school sport or activity--this gives them a chance to really get familiar with the camera.

During the third quarter the major projects are a Poetry Video and and personal project video that has to be approved by me and the student's parent. The students work in teams of three and are responsible for keeping what each person does in a production log.

We do have some film enrichment: we study the films Citizen Kane, Psycho, and La Strada for film technique. We also watch and analyze MTV videos that are acceptable in a classroom situation.

Here one of my former students,Jackie, demonstrates how to do a simple edit to a visiting German student.  We edit primarily on Mac computers using I Movie HD and Final Cut Pro.

We often help out the command here at Patch with videos for their special projects.

During the fourth quarter the students get to do a news spot on what is happening at school to be used in our VideoYearbook. They also must do a music video that has a little bit of lip synch and some choreography.

We work hand and hand with AFN and shoot on Beta tape with them.  W e cover the Porsche Tennis tournament in Filderstadt each year.
